Readers looking for cheap books and a big sandwich have a stop to make Sunday: Temple Israel's annual Book Fair and Corned Beef Sandwich Day returns for a fourth year.
The fundraiser runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, in the synagogue's Roth Social Hall, 50 S. Moss Road, according to Heritage Florida Jewish News. The Orlando Sentinel also previewed the event this week under its "Books, Beef and Bucks" banner.
The books
Thousands of donated titles will be sorted into fiction, nonfiction and children's sections, along with games, puzzles, CDs and other items sold for whatever buyers offer. Paperbacks cost $1 and hardcovers $2.
Shoppers who want first pick can pay $20 to get in early, beginning at 9:30 a.m. There is also a fill-a-bag option using a brown paper sack: $30 a bag from 9:30 to 11 a.m., $20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and $10 for the final stretch from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The sandwiches
Volunteers will assemble kosher corned beef sandwiches with about half a pound of meat each on seeded rye, served with coleslaw and a sour pickle. The early-bird price for a sandwich box ended Oct. 18; boxes ordered after that cost $24, and adding a drink and a brownie costs $5 more.
