Seminole County voters will choose a state senator on Nov. 3 in a District 10 race that pairs one of the Legislature's top Republicans with a Democrat from Maitland city government.
Sen. Jason Brodeur, a Republican, is seeking another term against Democrat John Lowndes, Florida Politics reported Monday. According to that report, the district takes in Seminole County, including Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood and Casselberry, and reaches into northern Orange County to cover Maitland and Winter Park.
The incumbent
Brodeur held the Senate's second-ranking job, president pro tempore, during the 2026 session and led the Senate budget panel that handles agriculture, environment and general government spending. He held a House seat between 2010 and 2018, was elected to the Senate in 2020 and was re-elected in 2022 with 54% of the vote.
An Ocklawaha River restoration bill he sponsored passed the House this year but never cleared the Senate.
Brodeur, a health care consultant, points to state money he secured for the district, including $500,000 for water cleanup at Mead Garden and $750,000 for the Central Florida Zoological Society, which took in animals that survived Sloth World.
"Jason Brodeur gets things done for Seminole and North Central Orange," his campaign website says, adding that he has cut costs for households and small employers and protected the region's springs and water.
He also drew criticism in February for backing a late amendment that opponents feared would weaken the rural boundaries in Orange and Seminole counties. Senators voted it down on the last day of the session. The Orlando Sentinel's editorial board cited that episode when it endorsed Lowndes. The political action committee of the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association is supporting Brodeur.
