Seminole County is asking residents to put a green light in a window for the week leading up to Veterans Day.
County commissioners are scheduled to proclaim Nov. 4 through Nov. 11 as Operation Green Light in Seminole County when they meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. Joey Cote, who manages the county's Veterans Services Division, is listed on the agenda for the proclamation, the first of the morning's presentations.
Operation Green Light for Veterans is a national effort of the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. The draft proclamation describes the green light as a sign of hope and forward movement for people leaving the military, and it encourages both homes and businesses in the county to display one through Veterans Day.
The proclamation notes that about 200,000 service members return to civilian communities each year and says veterans often struggle with benefits, finding resources and landing meaningful work after they leave active duty. It also cites an expected 20% increase in the number of service members making that move.
