Winter Springs Commissioner Paul Diaz has asked for a comparison of city police costs and potential service from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Oviedo Community News reported Sept. 30. The request arose at the Sept. 28 commission meeting.

The outlet reported differing reactions. Mayor Kevin McCann opposed discussing a possible switch, saying the conversation could hurt police recruitment. Commissioner Victoria Bruce supported obtaining the figures while questioning whether county service would produce substantial savings.

City spokesman Matt Reeser told the publication that no date had been set for an official discussion. He described the immediate work as accounting for the city department, with county figures also needed for a comparison.
