Seminole County residents can drop off unwanted tires at no charge on Saturday, Oct. 10, during a one-day waste tire collection the county announced Friday.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each household may bring up to five small tires. Two county sites will take them:

  • Central Transfer Station, 1950 State Road 419, Longwood
  • Seminole County Landfill, 1930 Osceola Road, Geneva

A mosquito-control push

The county tied the event to the recent wet weather. In its announcement, the county said clearing out items that collect water around a property is one way to help reduce mosquitoes, and that the event also removes places where rainwater can pool.

Outside the event

On other days, both sites already take waste tires, according to the county's solid waste page, though not at the event's terms. The transfer station limits drop-offs to four tires per person and the landfill to 10 per person, and the county charges disposal fees outside special events. The transfer station is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Monday through Saturday; the landfill is open daily during the same hours.

The transfer station also has a household hazardous waste drop-off that accepts paint, chemicals and similar items from all county residents, including those living in cities such as Winter Springs, at no cost.

Questions about the tire event can go to the Central Transfer Station at 407-665-2262.
