Winter Springs, Florida — Florida has initiated the statewide distribution of newly redesigned driver licenses and state identification cards featuring refreshed anti-fraud protections and historic state emblems, state officials announced following a Cabinet meeting at the Capitol. The updated credentials, which incorporate enhanced physical safeguards alongside commemorative artwork, began arriving at regional service centers on September 30, with online renewal options scheduled to roll out through the state motor vehicle portal by November.
State licensing administrators noted that the physical layout integrates several visual elements honoring regional heritage, including a background depiction of St. Augustine's Castillo de San Marcos, the nation's oldest masonry fortress. The card front also embeds a citrus orange within the state name, a native manatee illustration in the lower corner, and an alligator motif resting inside the federal REAL ID compliance star, while the reverse side depicts the Space Shuttle Discovery alongside 'Let Us Alone,' a historic motto featured on the inaugural banner conferred upon Governor William D. Moseley.
FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner emphasized that the revised format builds upon previous credential updates that substantially heightened anti-fraud defenses, reinforcing the state's leadership in identity security and federal REAL ID standards.
