Rays beat Yankees 5-2 for 2-0 lead in AL Division Series

Tampa Bay scored four runs in the fifth inning and New York committed four errors as the Rays won Game 2 at Tropicana Field on Monday.

The Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 5-2 on Monday night at Tropicana Field to take a 2-0 lead in their American League Division Series.

Tampa Bay scored in the first inning when Yandy Diaz came home on a throwing error by second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. Ben Rice tied the game with a solo home run to right field in the fourth.

The Rays broke it open with four runs in the fifth. Liam Hicks drove in Jonathan Aranda with a groundout, Chandler Simpson brought home Junior Caminero on a fielder's choice, and Richie Palacios singled to center to score Simpson and Jonny DeLuca. Rice homered again in the eighth for New York's second run.

The Yankees committed four errors and managed four hits. Tampa Bay finished with eight hits and no errors.

Freddy Peralta started for the Rays and allowed one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings. Cam Booser got the win in relief, Ian Seymour pitched three innings and allowed one run, and Bryan Baker earned the save. Yankees starter Cam Schlittler took the loss after giving up four runs, two earned, in 4 1/3 innings.

The game drew 40,226 fans. The best-of-five series needs one more Tampa Bay win to end.
