Lightning Take Early Control
Brandon Hagel scored three goals, including two in the third period, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New York Islanders 5-3 on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. Tampa Bay, the visiting team, built a two-goal lead in the opening period and held on after the Islanders rallied to tie the game in the second.
Jake Guentzel opened the scoring with his second goal, a wrist shot that made it 1-0. Hagel followed with his second goal, also on a wrist shot, with Victor Hedman and Max Crozier assisting. The Lightning led 2-0 after one period at UBS Arena.
Second-Period Swing
The Islanders made the game a one-goal contest when Tony DeAngelo scored his first goal on a wrist shot, assisted by Ondrej Palat. Guentzel restored Tampa Bay’s two-goal advantage with his third goal, a play set up by Nikita Kucherov and Hagel.
New York answered twice more. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his first goal on a snap shot, with Matthew Schaefer and DeAngelo assisting. Brayden Schenn then tied the game at 3 with his second goal, a tip-in assisted by Bo Horvat and Matias Maccelli.
The teams entered the third period even, with Tampa Bay ahead 3-0 in the period-by-period scoring line after one, followed by a 1-3 second period.
