For their first home game of the 2026 season, the Miami Dolphins promoted Clelin Ferrell, an edge defender, and Liam Anderson, a linebacker, from the practice squad to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
No running back was elevated, despite Jaylen Wright being listed as doubtful with a stinger and foot issue after missing Friday’s practice. Should Wright be unavailable, De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon II would be the only backs on the active roster. Wide receiver Malik Washington has previously been used at running back and could provide an emergency option, according to the report.
Ferrell’s elevation addresses depth at edge defender after Robert Beal Jr. was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Miami otherwise would have three available players at the position: Josh Uche, Chop Robinson and Malik Herring. Robinson is set to return after missing the team’s matchup with San Francisco because of a concussion.
Anderson’s addition is tied to special-teams responsibilities. He joined Miami’s active roster before the 49ers game, was later waived, and then returned to the practice squad. Saturday’s elevation gives him a chance to play in his second game for the Dolphins.
Ferrell has now been elevated three times in the first three games. That reaches the limit for practice-squad elevations, so another appearance for Miami in 2026 would require the team to add him to its active roster. The report said that move appears likely.
