Travis Hunter is active and playing for Jacksonville against the New England Patriots in Week 3, with the Jaguars giving him an increased role on defense early in the game.
Hunter played every snap during Jacksonville’s first two defensive possessions. He then entered the lineup during the Jaguars’ third offensive possession and was also on the field for the fourth, according to the report.
The early defensive workload is more extensive than Hunter’s involvement during Jacksonville’s first two games. He played 29 defensive snaps in the season opener and 37 in Week 2. On offense, he recorded four snaps in Week 1 and six in Week 2.
Hunter had been part of a cornerback rotation during the first two weeks. His presence for the entirety of the opening two defensive series in Week 3 indicates that Jacksonville may be increasing his defensive responsibilities, although the team’s full plan for his two-way role is not yet clear.
Deion Sanders, Hunter’s former coach at Colorado and the school’s current head coach, said on his CBS Colorado program that he did not know what was happening behind the scenes with Jacksonville’s usage decisions.
