Florida receiver and punt returner Vernell Brown III does not have a long-term knee injury, according to an MRI conducted after he left the Gators' victory over Ole Miss in the second quarter. Coach Jon Sumrall did not provide a return timetable, but Brown III could play against Missouri this week.
Sumrall said Brown III's status will depend on how much pain he can tolerate and whether he feels confident using the knee. The coach described the injury as a minor strain.
Brown III has been Florida's leading receiver, with 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 173 punt-return yards and two touchdowns on five returns.
Florida received additional updates on receivers Bailey Stockton and Eric Singleton Jr. Stockton played through a back injury during the second half against Ole Miss, and Sumrall said medical checks found no structural damage. Stockton is expected to have limited participation during the week, and his availability for the game has not been determined.
Singleton, an Auburn transfer, has been managing an ankle injury since the season opener. After missing the previous two games and the first half against Ole Miss, he returned after halftime and caught one pass for 39 yards. Sumrall expects Singleton to participate fully in practice this week.
