De’Von Achane exited the Miami Dolphins’ Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after hurting his left knee in the first half. He did not return to the game.
Coach Jeff Hafley told reporters after the game, “To be honest with you, it does not sound optimistic.” NFL insider Ian Rapoport separately reported that the concern was a major knee injury.
Achane appeared to be injured while running after making a catch. A defender reached him from behind, and Achane’s left leg turned as it went into the ground. A sports doctor commenting on social media said the play could involve the meniscus, while also noting that the available view did not show a tibia shift associated with greater ACL concern.
Ollie Gordon II served as the Dolphins’ backup running back against Kansas City and scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. Jaylen Wright, another option at the position, was unavailable because of a foot injury.
The source does not report a confirmed diagnosis or timetable for Achane’s return. It also says Miami may consider adding a veteran running back, noting that Kareem Hunt had recently been linked to the Carolina Panthers.
