Sandy Alcantara secured the save for the Miami Marlins, pitching a perfect final inning to close out a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at loanDepot Park. Alcantara faced three batters, striking out one and allowing no hits or walks in his outing.
He was joined in relief by Josh Ekness, who also pitched a scoreless frame with one strikeout, and Calvin Faucher, who recorded two strikeouts despite allowing two earned runs.
The Marlins’ offense was driven by back-to-back home runs from Dubón and Conine. Dubón opened the scoring in the third inning with a 385-foot shot to left-center field. Later, Conine provided the decisive blow in the seventh inning, launching a 415-foot homer to right field that extended Miami’s lead.
Game Progression
Atlanta took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Dubón homered. The Braves tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning when Hernández launched a 395-foot home run to left-center field.
Miami regained the lead in the sixth inning. Ruiz singled to center, allowing Hernández to score for a 2-1 advantage. Two batters later, Serna doubled to left, driving in both De Los Santos and Ruiz to make it 4-1.
The Braves cut into the deficit in the seventh when Keirsey Jr. grounded out, allowing Kim to score, making it 4-2. Dubón then singled to right, scoring Hicklen to push the margin to 5-2. Conine’s home run followed immediately, capping the rally at 5-3.
