The University of Central Florida's homecoming week begins on its main campus Monday, and a good share of the schedule is open to neighbors, not just students and alumni.
UCF's published guide lists events from Oct. 18 through Oct. 25 at the main campus and at UCF Downtown. The university says its first homecoming was held in 1971, when the school was still Florida Technological University, and was tied to basketball season until football arrived in 1979.

- Spirit Splash, Friday, Oct. 23, noon to 2 p.m., Reflecting Pond. Students charge into the pond to grab the year's custom rubber duck, with the spirit team and the Marching Knights performing. UCF lists it as free and open to the community.
