UCF gave itself a second chance in the second set Friday. It could not turn that chance into a level match.
The Knights rallied from 24–20 down against Cincinnati at The Venue on Oct. 9, extending a set that eventually featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Cincinnati still emerged with it, 31–29, and completed a 25–22, 31–29, 25–18 sweep.
That middle set was the hinge of the evening. Instead of beginning the third with the match even, UCF had to try to climb out of a two-set deficit. The Knights’ late resistance made the score closer without changing the outcome.
