Toys R Us is coming back to the Oviedo area. The retailer plans a year-round store inside the Oviedo Mall in neighboring Oviedo this fall, mall officials announced Sept. 30.
The mall has not set an opening date. Its announcement pointed to early October, according to WKMG News 6 and FOX 35, and said more details would follow. Store hours and any opening-day plans have not been released.
"Getting to welcome Toys R Us to Oviedo Mall year-round feels incredibly special," Josh Gunderson, the mall's marketing and events director, said in the announcement. He added that the mall wants to be "a place where people actually want to spend their time."
Part of a national comeback
The Oviedo store is part of a broader rebuild of the brand, which went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017 and shut hundreds of its American locations in 2018. Its owners, WHP Global and Go! Retail Group, are adding 120 standalone stores across the country this year, FOX 35 reported, which would bring the U.S. count of standalone locations from 40 to 160.
The brand also runs roughly 400 smaller shops inside Macy's stores and in August added a shop at Orlando International Airport.
