The School Board Still Leads, but a Plumbing Company Is Now the City's No. 2 Employer

The Seminole County School Board remains the largest employer in Winter Springs, but a local plumbing company has moved past City Hall into second place, according to the city's latest audited financial report.

The report, for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2025, lists the city's 10 largest employers and compares them with 2016. The city compiled the list from a telephone and email survey of major local businesses.

Together they account for 1,484 jobs, about 24% of employment in the city.

What changed since 2016

The school board's local count fell from 1,380 to 375, and its share of city employment dropped from about 20% to about 6%. The report does not explain the change. Modern Plumbing grew from 115 to 200 employees, and Dearborn Electronics from 167 to 186. The city government itself went from 203 to 179.

Watermark at Vistawilla appears on the list for the first time, while Longwood Kia/Mitsubishi, No. 10 in 2016, dropped off.

The city's report puts Winter Springs' daytime working population at about 6,150 full-time equivalent workers, citing the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission.
