Seminole County Public Schools is asking the public to suggest a name for the campus that used to be Midway Elementary School, which the district is converting into an early learning center.

The center will focus on helping young children develop academically, socially, behaviorally and physically, and it will serve families in the Sanford-Midway area, WFTV reported. The Seminole County School Board will make the final choice.

How to submit a name

Community members can send ideas in any of three ways, according to WFTV:

  • By mail: Address suggestions to the district's Educational Support Center (attention: Clerk to the Board Jill Mahramus) at 400 E. Lake Mary Blvd. in Sanford, ZIP code 32773. Mailed entries need a postmark dated no later than Wednesday, Nov. 4.
  • By email: The clerk's address is jill_mahramus@scps.k12.fl.us; send ideas there before midnight on Friday, Nov. 6.
  • By fax: Fax suggestions to 407-320-0281, also before midnight on Friday, Nov. 6.

When the board decides

Board members plan to select a name at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Because the school board serves the whole county, the request is not limited to Midway residents; families in Winter Springs and other Seminole communities may also weigh in. WFTV's report did not describe how the board will narrow the suggestions or what standards a name must meet.
