Orlando City holds a direct playoff place in the Eastern Conference, but only by a single point.
The Lions (11-13-4, 37 points) are seventh, the last spot that leads straight to a best-of-three Round One series, with six regular-season matches to play. The New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati are level on 36 points in eighth and ninth, the two wild-card places, and Cincinnati has a match in hand, according to CBS Sports' standings.
New York City FC is the first team out, on 33.
Orlando's next stop is BMO Field on Wednesday, against an opponent trying to climb into that group. Toronto FC (7-10-11, 32 points) is 11th, four points below the playoff line, and comes in off a 2-1 derby win over CF Montréal that ended a three-match losing streak, Sportsnet reported.
Lewis Morgan and Djordje Mihailovic scored for Toronto, which is chasing its first postseason berth since 2020.
Orlando won the September meeting 3-0. Wednesday's kickoff is 7:30 p.m. ET on Apple TV.
Two records within reach
Iván Angulo scored in the 89th minute to beat Columbus 3-2 at home on Saturday. It was his fifth MLS match in a row with a goal, equal to Antoine Griezmann's club mark for a single season, so one more in Toronto would give Angulo the record outright.
Martín Ojeda set up that winner and remains one goal from passing Facundo Torres, whose 47 goals in all competitions have stood as the club record since 2024, according to Orlando City. Ojeda already leads the club in career goal contributions and has 14 goals across all competitions this season.
Griezmann has contributed a goal or an assist in eight consecutive MLS matches and has nine goals and five assists in 12 league appearances since arriving in the summer, the club reported.
Defending the lead
Goal difference is the soft spot. The Lions have scored 51 league goals and allowed 66, and their minus-15 goal difference is the lowest among the nine Eastern Conference teams currently in playoff position.
