Martín Ojeda created Orlando City's first goal on Saturday night and scored its second, and the second put him somewhere no one in club history had been.
The Argentine midfielder crossed for Antoine Griezmann's equalizer in the 32nd minute, then gave the Lions a 2-1 lead in the 49th against New York City FC at Inter.co Stadium. The goal was his 50th for Orlando City across all competitions, making him the first player to reach that total for the club, Orlando City said.
It was not enough for a win. Jonathan Shore equalized deep into second-half stoppage time, and the match ended 2-2 in front of 21,525. The club's match notes list the goal in the 10th minute of added time, while the AP put it in the 99th minute.
Two goals, both through Ojeda
New York City went ahead in the 18th minute, when Alonso Martínez got on the end of a left-wing ball and scored from in close, slipping between defender Iago and goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.
Fourteen minutes later Ojeda found Griezmann from the left wing, and the French forward headed in the tying goal. The assist was Ojeda's 47th for Orlando in all competitions, matching former captain Mauricio Pereyra for the club record.
The go-ahead goal started on the other flank. Iván Angulo crossed from the right, Vinícius Nogueira nodded it back toward the middle, and Ojeda met it near the top of the box with a left-footed finish past U.S. national team goalkeeper Matt Freese. It was his team-leading 17th goal of the season in all competitions, according to the club.
Griezmann's pace
Griezmann's header was his 13th MLS goal since he arrived in July. He has a goal or an assist in 11 straight league matches, one short of the club record Ojeda set last season. MLSsoccer.com noted he reached 20 goal contributions in 15 league matches, second-fastest in league history behind only Lionel Messi's 14.
