Sixty Central Florida veterans are set to leave Orlando Sanford International Airport early Saturday on a one-day Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and the public is invited to see them off and greet them when they land that night.
The trip is Mission #37 for Honor Flight Central Florida, an all-volunteer nonprofit that flies veterans to the capital at no cost to them so they can visit the war memorials. The group serves veterans who live in six counties, including Seminole, Orange and Volusia, according to its website.
Who is going
According to an event announcement carried by Rumba 100.3, Saturday's group is made up of 41 Vietnam War veterans, 18 Korean War veterans and a single veteran of World War II. Guardians and support staff will travel with them on an Allegiant flight. The airport is hosting a breakfast for the veterans before they board.
Times and place
Departure is set for 7 a.m., and the veterans are expected back at about 10 p.m. Supporters can gather in the terminal lobby on the airport's first floor for both the departure and the return. The airport is at 1200 Red Cleveland Blvd. in Sanford. Organizers suggest bringing signs, flags and notes of thanks.
