Seminole County commissioners are set on Tuesday to consider handing up to $482,029.65 in tourist tax money to Perfect Game USA, the amateur baseball tournament company whose events generate most of the economic impact at the county's Boombah Sports Complex, to help cover its field rental for the coming season.

The item sits on the consent agenda for the Board of County Commissioners' Oct. 13 meeting, which starts at 9:30 a.m.

How the money works

The payment would come from Tourist Development Tax revenue under the county's sports tourism incentive program. According to the staff summary, the program pays $15 for each Seminole County hotel room night an event produces, and the money goes toward rental fees at Boombah, paid directly to the complex. Nothing is paid until county staff checks the hotel numbers after the events.

If the verified rooms fall short of covering the rental, Perfect Game owes the county the difference, as it has in past years, staff wrote.

The agreement covers 32 events between Oct. 2, 2026, and Sept. 27, 2027, the first of which has already been played. Upcoming dates on the schedule include the Florida Fall Elite Championship Oct. 16-18 and the Florida Champion's Cup and Oktoberfest Oct. 23-25.

Perfect Game's application projects 1,228 out-of-town teams and about 74,000 spectators over 111 event days, and lists a guarantee of 32,136 room nights. The staff summary cites a lower projected minimum of 21,689 documented county hotel rooms and estimates $31 million in economic impact.

A long-running partnership

The county and Perfect Game signed a memorandum of understanding in July 2020 making the company a preferred operator at Boombah, with a yearly facility use agreement and a yearly grant agreement.

In the fiscal year that just ended, Perfect Game held 30 events there that brought in more than 80,000 visitors, staff reported, and its events accounted for more than 70 percent of the economic impact generated at the complex.

Under the program rules, any incentive above $25,000 needs approval from the full commission rather than county staff.
